Armenia is member country of more than 35 international organizations including NATO and United Nations.
Like many other countries Armenia also invaded by others, one of them was Soviet Union. Armenia was disintegrated under Soviet rule in three parts; Armenian SSR, Azerbaijan SSR, and Georgian SSR. In 1988, Armenian people started nation wide revolt against Soviet government, as the then president Gorbachev was not able to solve Armenian people problems. Armenia was also suffering with Spitak earthquake and the soviet leader was unable to fulfill the basic need of Armenian people like lodging, fooding, shelter and medicines.
In 1991, as Soviet Union disintegrated, and Armenia declared Independence. But there were dispute between Armenia and neighboring country Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh. In 1994, a cease-fire was put in place with assistance from Russia and since then the leaders of two countries are involved in peace talk. Though, territorial dispute is still unsolved.
In 2007, Armenia is 32nd most economically independent nation in the world. However, the employment rate is not high. Armenia shares good relations with the Commonwealth of Independent States, Middle East and Europe; Armenia also maintains Cardinal relations with Iran and Georgia, the vital routes for trade, gas, oil and other supplies.
The president of Armenia is the head of the government. Government of Armenia has executive power. Both the government and the parliament exercise the legislative power.
Armenia is a mountainous country, engulfed with forests and rivers. The climate here is highland continental. Armenia records 22 to 36 degree Celsius temperature during summer months. Winter temperature ranges from -5 to -10 degree Celsius.
